B i o g r a p h y

Anna L. Joham, an award-winning soprano, BATCC Nominated actor and EMC member, is a native Oregonian who made her stage debut with Portland Opera at age five. Her subsequent performances include, Music Theater, Opera, as well as Classical and Modern Plays.

​

She acted and sang with the Portland Opera Children's Chorus for seven years and received her first role as Kim in their production of Show Boat. Anna’s training in the Children’s Chorus prepared her for performing experiences in school and community theater, where she performed the roles of Golde in Fiddler on the Roof; Nancy in PollyAnna; Sister Margaretta in Sound of Music; Penelope-Ann in Bye Bye Birdie; the Caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland and Mistress Flora in Sleeping Beauty, to name a few.

After obtaining a B.A. in Vocal Performance from the University of Oregon, Anna continued her vocal training at Oklahoma City University, where she earned a Master’s Degree in Music Theater Performance. During her training at OCU, she sang  the following roles: The Medium in LaChiusa's  See What I Wanna See; Mrs. Kirk in  Little Women; Madame Armfeldt in Sondheim's A Little Night Music; and Marcellina in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro.

While at OCU Anna’s love of opera was rekindled, and she decided to pursue a Graduate Performance Degree in Opera at BARD Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts. While at Longy, she sang the roles of Mrs. Gobineau in Menotti's  The Medium; Jessie in Kurt Weill's Die Kliene Mahagonny; and La Contessa in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro.

Anna was able to perform in the Boston community, while studying at Longy. She was a soloist for Massachusetts Gay Pride Day at the State Building,, she sang with the Boston Opera Company's production of La Boheme, and placed Third in the Boston Chapter of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Soloist Competition. 

​

After completing her training in Boston she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to pursues a performing career in Music Theater and Opera.  Since living the Bay Area, Anna has been able to perform in a variety of genres including Music Theatre, Opera, Cabaret, Shakespeare, and New Works. She has had the opportunity to originate two roles in world premier productions: Love, Laughter & Linguine with Tabard Theatre Company and Castle Happy with Alterena Playhouse. While working on a revised version of  TheatreFIrst's acclaimed production of The Farm, Anna was recognized for her talent and was nominated in the Bay Area Theatre Critics Choice (BATCC) Awards for Best Featured Actress. She also was a part of Ray of Light's West Coast Premier of American Psycho singing the role of Mrs. Bateman.

She recently performed in Mountain Play's production of Hello Dolly,  performing the role of Ernestina and understudying the role of Dolly

 

Anna also volunteers her talents with Food Bank Players in Alameda to raise awareness of hunger and food needs in Alameda County. She has performed Beatrice in their productions of Much Ado About Nothing and Polonius in Hamlet, where she also had to go on fro the role of Gertrude due to Covid related issue, and her last role  with them was Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream. 

​

Anna lives in Alameda with her cats Prima Donna and Muse, teaching private voice and piano lessons at the Alameda School of Music, in addition to performing. She enjoys studying french, cooking up new and delicious meals for her friends, playing the piano and exploring the bay area in her free time.
